Cleaning

We offer a complete cleaning service for all types of carpets, rugs, kilims, trappings and wall hangings. This can include, hand made, machine made, silks, needle point, new or antique.

The traditional and correct method of washing is used, with the additional innovative use of a centrifuge which lifts the rugs knots and releases deeply ingrained dirt and grit. The carpet is then washed by hand on both sides with a natural soap, which cleans and conditions the wool. After numerous rinses, it is then placed in a drying room, racked out under tension to maintain its correct shape as it dries steadily.

We can clean rugs and kilims with the following problems:

Repairs

All levels of repair are undertaken, from securing a rugs damaged fringe to complete restoration.

When a carpet, rug or kilim comes into Coldharbour Trading,we assess its needs carefully, and then pass it on to the appropriate specialist. We have long standing and close associations with some of the best repairers in the world, each expert in a particular field.

We believe that you cannot be a "Jack of all trades" in repair and restoration, and therefore we will make sure that your carpet goes to the repairer who will do the best job for you.

We frequently carry out repairs to rugs and kilims with the following problems:

Pet Chewed corners / edges
Frayed fringes
Pulled and loose threads
Low pile areas

Underlays

We can supply excellent underlay for all carpets and Kilims that will totally stop movement on any surface. This is essential to use if you are laying your rug on an abrasive surface such as stone or tiles.

For day to day care for your rug we suggest the following measures:

Vacuum gently, avoiding the fringes.
Rotate the rug every six months or so to ensure even wear.
Make sure that holes and tears are repaired promptly by our professionals.
Attend to any spills swiftly, by blotting with kitchen paper, and then gently working on the affected area with a damp cloth. Do not use chemical stain treatments.
